Borderlands Borderlands 3 - Character Build Competition

Borderlands Borderlands 3 - Character Build Competition

Borderlands 3 - Character Build Competition

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 07:32 AM PDT

We are launching a competition for the most badass character builds in Borderlands 3.

It will last one week: submissions will be accepted until Sunday October 6th at 8pm GMT.

    To participate:

    1. Create a new independent post in /r/borderlands with the full description of your (level 50) build. Make sure to give it the new [Character Build] post flair, and to follow the build description template.
    2. Submit your build via a top level comment in this competition thread, with simply "Character name: build name" (with a link to the build description post).
    3. Maximum one submission per person, for each playable character: you can submit one Moze build and one Amara build (separately), but not two Zane builds.

    To evaluate:

Everyone's participation is welcome to evaluate the builds, using reddit's upvote system on the comments in this competition thread. Upvotes on the build description posts themselves should be granted too, but will not be taken into account here.

The criteria you should consider before voting are 1) The quality of the build description, and 2) the quality of the build itself: raw power, but also originality, fun level (builds that are fun to play but not necessarily viable at the highest difficulty can be valuable additions too), etc. Ideally, try out the build first.

    The winners:

The mod team will select a few winners for each playable character. The selection will be strongly guided by the number of upvotes, but not strictly (e.g. we may choose not to select the second most voted build for a character, if it is very similar to the first most voted build, or if we simply dislike the user who posted it (/s), or whatever other reason).

    The prize:

This competition is mostly for fun, and to encourage some nice build write-ups, and to celebrate the 10 years of the sub, and maybe even to distract from some topics/complaints/"unpopular opinions" that get reposted a bit too often.

The winning builds will however receive the honour of a spot in a build repository that will be created for the occasion in the Wiki of this sub. Note that this build repository on the wiki is not meant to be constantly kept up to date with whatever new builds get posted. It may get updated at some point in the future (e.g. if the competition is successful and we ever launch a second edition) but, at least for some time, it will only contain the winning builds.

Comments in this thread should only be top-level comments with the build submission. Anything else will be removed. If you wish to comment/discuss on a build, please do so in the individual build thread. If you wish to comment/discuss on the competition itself, please do so in the build template thread.

Just finished the game. And holy sh*t

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:53 PM PDT

Holy hell. This game was AWESOME. The story was interesting, gameplay was phenomenal, and the graphics are mind blowing. I absolutely loved this game. My 2 brothers and I would play borderlands and borderlands 2 as kids and that was the way we learned to play along and with each other. Now, my oldest bro has moved on to college, and with the release of this game, we played together over discord for hours. Thank you gearbox and 2k. Thank you for the memories and the good times. Never forget these games.

Despite the other issues, gunplay in BL3 is top tier.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:21 AM PDT

Seriously, coming from someone that played BL2 for 1k+ hours, this game is just way more fun coming from a pure gameplay standpoint. The guns and movement just feel SO good and it's a blast just running around and shooting things.

So I started a new series for those who want to hear dialogue differences for the 4 playable characters.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 05:33 AM PDT

If you're interested in hearing other character dialogue or your audio just stuffed up and you were unable to hear what a character said than the series I'm two episodes into making is for you. Honestly these videos are done just for a bit of fun while I'm on break but many on YouTube have enjoyed them so I figured I'd let Reddit in on it (:

Attention to detail in Jakobs pistols

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 03:54 PM PDT

I really appreciate the attention to detail in this game. When you reload a Jakobs pistol, you can actually see how many bullets are missing from the revolver when you reload and your character only replaces the empty bullet slots, not just emptying the entire magazine.

Small details like this are really neat and I'm glad Gearbox have put so much time and effort into this game!

Proving grounds loot could use a buff

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 04:35 PM PDT

Proving grounds loot is pretty trash, with all the "GET 10 BILLION LEGENDARIES IN 24 SECONDS" type videos and farms it's left the proving ground which should be the endgame, but lack luster when it comes to loot, maybe they could have exclusive legendaries or just have more legendaries, when the legendary farms inevitably get patched.

I really wish Cosmetics/Decorations were a different loot color

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:03 AM PDT

I've lost count of the number of times a Legendary dropped and its actually just a cosmetic i already have.

I also wonder how many cosmetics and decorations ive not picked up because they were a grey/green/blue color and ive just ignored them.

I do hope they change the loot color of those drops to something else.

    Sanctuary Eridium Slot Machine Chances

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 05:24 PM PDT

Hi everyone, first time poster! I had recently decided to take some time to answer a very important question: How has Moxxi rigged the slots this time. I used the Eridium one, as it seems to be the realistically best one to do.

After 1000 Rolls on the Slot Machine, here are the results (Google Sheets)

    Some Things of note;

    • Guns seem to be slightly more likely to drop than Grenades and Shields
    • The chance to get a Legendary appears to be the same in previous Borderlands Games
    • The chance to get a Purple appears to be less than in previous games
    • The Chance to get a Blue appears to be about the same
    • Relics tend to drops as Commons or Uncommons, with the occasional Blue

Note that this is a somewhat small sample size. I can do a larger one later, but this was a bit of an all day affair. Let me know if I need to change anything, and thank you for your time!

FL4K’s Jabber pets kills count towards Weapon Manufacturer loyalty rewards

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 03:38 PM PDT

I really only use Jakob's and Vladof weapons. But I noticed I kept getting Dahl loyalty rewards even though I never use them. But then I saw my pet jabber was using a Dahl sub machine gun, and that I got the rewards right after he'd get a kill. Neat little side mechanic I noticed

Maybe I'm crazy but I'm like 80% sure that the enemy sometimes has a target lock on your even when you're invisible as Fl4k

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 02:50 PM PDT

I definitely move around when invisible and yet I sometimes get hit by something and am downed because of it. Can't really wrap my mind around why.

Also on a sidenote: Why the fuck can Anointed Zealot death orbs follow you even when invisible? It's like Gearbox just had to make sure that there is no counterplay to it. Someone play tested this and gave a thumbs up to this decision, this is real folks.

    Sort sidequests by Planet please!

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 09:13 PM PDT

It would be a much welcome addition to sidequests as sometimes they don't even mention what planet they're on and you have to go into orbit in the map menu to even figure out where they are. Then you have to go back, switch tracked quests, go back to map menu, go into orbit to see the next one.

Thank you if you see this!

There IS a way to test weapon damage in Sanctuary III (technically)

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:50 PM PDT

slight spoilers if you haven't made it past Pandora sorta

So, in Ellie's airlock area, you're able to summon a vehicle of your choice, but you can't ride it. It doesn't have any use other than tanking damage and showing how much damage you deal. Seeing as the shooting range doesn't have a dummy, you could use this for now as a way to test overall dps with a gun or skill spec while still in sanctuary, at least until Gearbox adds in something to replace it.

Everybody is jumping on this "Fix Mayhem" train so I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring. Presenting... Patricia Tannis's Scientific Expedition into Ultimate Mayhem!

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 04:47 AM PDT

Context: Nothing fancy. Just your average "I know better than devs" garbage that pops up on this sub from time to time... ha, a joke... But seriously. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the game as is or that any of my ideas are improvements (probably not). I just had an idea. Something I cooked up while staring at porn (I work at an X-Mart). And thought I'd share. So just to clarify I'm not trying to flame anything by putting this idea out there. I just don't wanna keep it to myself. Unliketheporn

    So let me present...

Borderlands 3: Patricia Tannis's Scientific Expedition into Ultimate Mayhem!

Summary (TL;DR): Tannis broke the Mayhem thingy.

Summary (Fun): Patricia Tannis wanted to unlock the fullest potential of the Eridian Artifact that allowed Vault Hunters to experience a less friendly reality with greater gains. Oh shiz. She broke it. Whoops. Also not whoops. Because as Moxxi says, a broken slot machine gives the best- you know what let's keep this PG and just say you're getting more loot. But the modifiers are gonna get weird. Like, really weird, crap your hat weird. But that's just how life be sometimes. So what're you gonna do? That's right! You're gonna tie your shoes, pickup a gun, put on a new hat, and go kill some- oh my gawd is that psycho riding a dinosaur?! MAYHEM!

Summary (Serious): This DLC ideally replaces or at least expands upon the Mayhem Mode system to include Ultimate Mayhem Mode. Help Patricia Tannis get the Eridian Artifact back into working condition by entering the fragmented virtual reality it has created and repairing the machine from within. You'll have to kill a few Guardian safeguards, bust a couple firewalls, and maybe tear open a hole in the fabric of reality. Nothing too much.

    Ultimate Mayhem Mode

How It Works: Mayhem Mode now introduces three sets of modifiers. The first set, Player Modifiers, only affect you. These effects work on a timed rotation and will change as you play. So every three minutes or so you'll have to adapt to a new set of rules (or just keep doing you, you badass). The second set, Enemy Modifiers, are always active. Bad guys in Ultimate Mayhem Mode might be fudging crazy, but it's a consistent sort of crazy. So no more re-loading your game or exiting matchmaking because modifiers suck. Now they always suck. No exceptions. Yay! And the third set, World Modifiers, vary based on location. So your experience turning Maliwan punks into bloody aerosol will differ between the open world of Promethea and the confined terror of Slaughterstar 3000. These are the general mechanical changes. Below I'll list some potential modifier options to fine-tune the experience.

Player Modifiers: As stated above, these are the modifiers that affect you. Modifiers will constantly alternate as you play to keep things lively. Two will be active at a time and after about three minutes they'll get switched out for two new randomly selected modifiers. Don't worry. None of the modifiers implement a significant nerf, in fact some of them provide conditional buffs, but overall they just help change things up.

    • No Mags: You can't reload, but your stowed weapons will rapidly regenerate ammunition for their magazines so shoot, swap, and repeat. For obvious reasons this modifier won't bother anyone with a fancy for Moze or COV weapons. But that's ok. Because it's still a cool modifier. And a modifier that incentives a little variety is good for the game.

    • Mystery Element: Gun Damage is converted into a random element type. You can change this element type by reloading or swapping weapons. This modifier is sponsored by Maliwan, currently accepting applications for a new head of acquisitions and mergers.

    • Do the Robot: Converts your health/shields into armor (two separate bars). Life is metal. Watch your back for Corrosive, Cryo, and Claptrap.

    • Slot-R Machine: You inflict 200% Gun Damage. Or 25% Gun Damage. Or any of the 173 options for damage percentage between those two extremes. Just keep one finger on the trigger and two fingers crossed. Any hit that does inflict 200% Gun Damage is accompanied by a musical tune, some confetti, and a sense of pride and accomplishment.

    • Pandorámon: Granted resistance to a random element type and generate an aura of that element to damage nearby enemies. You'll take super effective damage from the element type that beats yours. Incendiary > Cryo, Cryo > Corrosive, Corrosive > Shock, Shock > Radiation, Radiation > Incendiary. Doesn't make sense? Shut up.

    • I AM THE GUN!: Gravity is reduced and you're slathered in butter. Increasing jump height and slide distance along with the damage your slam and slide attacks inflict. This modifier is the one you hope you get but will complain about never getting (even though you get it just as much as the others).

Overall they're not bad right? Yeah, they're pretty rad. And you can always just add more to really keep things exciting.

Enemy Modifiers: These are the buffs the bad guys get. All of these will be active all the time no matter where you are. Enjoy. And also new types of bad guys. That's right. Ultimate Mayhem Mode is bringing some harsh variety. MAYHEM!

    • Legendary Gear: Baddies are getting new tech. Namely, some of the tech we have. Shotgun Tinks with Flakker shotguns, Psycho's with Rough Rider shields, Maliwan tossing out Quasar grenades, the works. They've got a lot of pent-up aggression against us and things are about to get cathartic. Extremely, dangerously, painfully cathartic.

    • Galaxy Vs. Vault Hunters: Enemies spawn with more variety. Ultimate Mayhem Mode has brought the galaxy together against a common enemy, you. Bandits, Maliwan, Beasts, Robots, etc... are all putting aside their respective differences to kill the crap outta the Vault Hunters. So expect a bit more variety.

    • New Enemies: Things are getting surreal out there. Psychos riding Dinosaurs, Maliwan Heavies the size of Tinks, Engored Rakk spitting out giant Badass enemies, all sorts of weird crap. Reality doesn't need to make sense. It just has to bleed.

    • Hell Says Hello: Some bad guys are just too bad too stay dead. Every now and then when you kill an enemy they'll instantly reincarnate as a much stronger, larger, and deadlier variation of that same enemy type. And on very rare occasions they'll reincarnate more than once. Just keep killing them until death sticks and the rewards at the end of the pain-bow won't disappoint. And on very, extra, super, crazy rare occasions you might kill a boss and hear Dark Souls music start to play. You'll find out why soon enough.

    • Meet the Boys: You remember that person/animal/thing you killed? It had friends. And they want you dead. Sometimes when you enter an area for enemy spawns you'll become a priority target for some uniquely powerful enemies. Just dig in your heels, grit your teeth, and pray your current build is meta enough to survive the carnage. They'll bugger off if you reload the area so it's nothing that'll halt your progression. But you're nobody's bitch. And we both know you'll burn through that $20 million in savings just to crack open some skulls.

    • The Greatest Form of Flattery: Sometimes you'll fight... uh, well. You. Yeah reality is broke AF. Iron Bears, Digi-Clones, SNTNL Drones, FL4K's Pets, and Astral Projections will occasionally glitch into the system. They're stronger than your average baddy and come with higher chances to drop Legendary Class Mods. So keep an eye out. Besides, there can only be one.

    • Want Some More, Bitch?: Enemies can level up too. When a non-boss enemy kills you they get a buff, in both power and ego, that'll make them a tougher fight the second time around. Complete with new equipment and support from their adoring fans.

    • You Don't Belong Here: Every now and then you'll encounter a rather unhappy Guardian with boss-level power that wants you to kindly fudge off. But fudge that thing, am I right? Punch it in the dick- er, well. Punch it in the face!... wait. Which part is the face? Kill it. Just kill it. Be careful though. You're on its playing field. And it makes the rules.

I like me. I think I have pretty good ideas. And all of these are some good momma-jamba ideas. It really gives Mayhem Mode that extra level of incentive. Nothing says "I'm Having Fun" quite like "I'VE DIED 10 TIMES BUT THIS NEXT TIME IS THE ONE!". The key factor is that in this concept not every enemy has 45% bonuses to everything. It creates two distinct enemy types. The fodder and the badasses. You'll still encounter bad guys that make you curse the game, but it'll feel more special, and be more rewarding.

World Modifiers: And so we arrive at the final list. This one is pretty simple. Just helps makes the endgame areas more fun/rewarding than the basic open world areas. So activities have more incentive to be repeated.

    • Hard Mode: Areas which contain Circles of Slaughter or Proving Grounds have much higher quality enemy types and much higher chances to trigger unique enemy appearances through the new Enemy Modifiers. Additionally, there is a chance for minor world bosses to spawn during these activities complete with their unique loot pools and higher drop rates. This basically means you'll be encountering the Truant Brothers on Salughterstar 3000, Ghostlight Beacon, etc... Mouthpiece will make appearances at the Slaughter Shaft, The Skydrowned Pulpit, etc... and all those beasts you hunted for Sir Hammerlock will pop up during Cistern of Slaughter, Gradient of Dawn, etc... This should include just about every minor or slightly major boss. Bounty targets, hunts, etc... all of em.

    • Boss Mode: Areas specifically designated for specific boss fights, such as Vault Monsters, have their own sets of rules. First of all you won't be encountering most of Enemy Modifiers. I say most, because keep and ear out for that Dark Souls music, just saying. But for the most part the fights are just harder. Like, way harder. You'll want to go in with your best stuff. Or check Reddit for exploits. Gonna make ya earn that loot.

    • Slaughter Superstar!: At the end of each round in any Circle of Slaughter, players gain a stack of Superstar! for each surviving player. Each stack of Superstar! increases Luck and the chance for Enemy Modifier's to occur. Maximum of 20 Superstar! stacks. Stacks won't decay over time, but are lost if you respawn or leave the area.

    • The Proven One: Removes the time limit on Proving Grounds. Killing enemies within a Proving Grounds location adds a stack of Proven to the player. Each stack of Proven increases Luck and the chance for Enemy Modifier's to occur. Maximum of 20 Proven stacks. Stacks will begin to decay after going to long with killing an enemy, all stacks are lost if you respawn or leave the area.

Nothing too fancy. Just your basic "Effort = Rewards" systems.

Concluding Comment: So far as statistics go for enemy health, damage, etc... it should be a consistent set of numbers. I'm not going to presume to know what sort of those numbers will keep the balance. But they shouldn't be shifted and forcing folks to reload areas for rolls that aren't trash. Mayhem needs to be crazy, but not like that, NOT LIKE THAT!... Ah shit, said I wasn't gonna flame. Sorry. Consider this the opinion section and disregard at your own discretion. I like my idea. Does it needs work? Yeah, probably, but that's fine. Like I said I just wanted to get my idea out of my head. So I'm putting it here. And this is just the most general of outlines for a nice direction for Mayhem Mode to move in.

Edit: Oh my, Platinum. I feel so pretty.

    Zane: Fortress of Zanitude

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:35 AM PDT

    Zane: Fortress of Zanitude

Game Version: [Hotfix] September 27th, 2019

    Category: Survivability, Mobbing

    Level: 50

Summary: Zane is, as we know, the current weakest Vault Hunter. This is the set up that I've been using that made me question that claim for awhile, until I decided to respec my Zane to see the fuss. It revolves around Zane and his digiclone using Cryo along with perks from the bottom section of the shield tree, in order to keep Zane's barrier around him as an Overshield and his digiclone active at all times while mobbing through an area.

    ____________________

    Skills: Zane

We are running two action skills with the build. Our primary method to keep our shield up will be our Zane clone, who is also our secondary method to damage enemies.

I'm going to run through everything in depth starting with the shield tree before moving on to our clone tree. I'm going to be using the updated numbers from directly in-game, if you are following along with the skill tree link then be warned there will be number discrepancies. All of my information comes from directly in game.

Shield Tree - Warning: Most of these are necessary to the build's function and are here to keep you alive.

    • For the first three passives the points are divided 4/3/2. This gives you up to +28% action skill cooldown rate, depending on how high Zane's shields are. It increases your maximum shield capacity by 30%, and your shield recharge rate by +12%, your delay by -14%. These skills are necessary so don't swap them out. We'll boost the numbers on Adrenaline and Ready for Action with gear later.
    • Next, 5 points into Brain Freeze and 3 points into Stiff Upper Lip. Zane now has +16% damage resistance against the last damage type he took and he has a 20% chance to slow an enemy on a critical hit. This slow effect will stack until the enemy has been Frozen*. Brain Freeze is* necessary for the build. Stiff Upper Lip is also***. We are not pouring points into Rise to the Occasion because it gives health regen based on missing shields, and our goal is to keep our shield full always.***
    • There's only 1 skill to grab on this part of the tree, Confident Competence. With our main goal to keep our shields as high as possible, this will always give you a near 20% gun damage boost and a +33% accuracy boost. You definitely want to grab this one. While we're here, the two Augments for your shield are on this part of the tree. Grab the All-rounder and the Nanites or Some Shite augments. The full barrier gives additional cooldown but it's greatly offset by our passives as well as any guardian rank you may or may not have obtained, depending on where you're at.
    • Moving down our tree, pick up Really Expensive Jacket and Futility Belt. Really Expensive Jacket gives you a status effect duration -50%, so if you were supposed to be on fire for 5 seconds you're only gonna have to suffer for 2 and a half seconds. Futility Belt gives you a +15% damage reduction to non-elemental damage, and every time you score a kill all elemental damage you take is converted to non-elemental for 8 seconds. This passive is stacking with your Stiff Upper Lip to give you a +31% damage reduction so long as you're killing enemies. Keep in mind to not touch Best Served Cold. The Cryo nova is nice, but it isn't going to scale well with you in any Mayhem 3 mode, TVHM or Normal.
    • Finally, we get to our last skill point for this tree. Calm, Cool, Collected. This is an important foundation for the rest of our build, it must be taken. Now, when you freeze an enemy it will begin to recharge your shields. If your shield is already recharged, it will give you 3% health regen for the next 3 seconds. If your shields and your health are full when you freeze an enemy, it will instantly reset any action skill duration or active cooldown. This means that you can cover yourself with your dome shield to fully protect yourself, along with all the additional modifiers you're getting from passive skills and augments, to keep your shields at maximum a majority of the time. Which means that you can consistently freeze enemies to reset the duration of your dome shield to keep it around you for a longer period of time. This will become much easier to maintain as we get into our clone tree.

And that does it for our Shield Tree. This is the tree I would recommend any new Zane build to start with. You don't get the DPS from other builds with this strat, but you get a lot of survivability for that early game content.

Clone Tree - This is where things get a little more flexible. Lots of things will still be necessary, but this entire tree's function is to reinforce our Calm, Cool, and Collected skill.

    • Starting strong we have 5 points into Synchronicity, 3 into Praemunitus and 4 into Borrowed Time. Synchronicity will give you a +20% gun damage bonus per active action skill. Considering we're going to have both the Digiclone and the Barrier on the battlefield as much as possible, you will have a +40% gun damage boost while mobbing a majority of the time. Both you are your digiclone benefit from a +25% magazine boost with the 3 points into Praemunitus which will help you deal more damage faster, to score those criticals to stack Brain Freeze or to just dish out as much damage as possible. 4 points into Borrowed time is giving you an increased action skill duration of +12% action duration for each active action skill. This will allow you more time to freeze enemies to proc a complete duration reset. These three skills are mandatory.
    • On the next section of our tree, we'll grab 1 point into Fractal Frags. When you spawn your clone, it throws a copy of your equipped grenade mod. If your clone dies, it drops a free grenade. Additionally killing an enemy while the clone is active gives a 30% chance for your clone to throw another grenade. Use with any Cryo grenade, but recommended gear is coming soon. As for Duct Tape Mod, we'll tap 4 points into it to give a +16% chance to fire a grenade with the first shot fired from your gun, with an 8 second cooldown on activation. This pairs extremely well with recommended gear as well. Fractal Frags is necessary, Duct Tape Mod is recommended.
    • We've hit the halfway point in our skill tree. Slap a point into Quick Breather so that any time you swap places with your clone, your shield immediately begins recharging. And while we're here, grab the Schadenfreude Augment. Whenever your clone takes damage, your shield is restored by 100% of the damage taken. This means that if your clone takes 3,000 damage, you've just gotten 3,000 shield if you were missing any. This just further serves to keep your shields at full so you can continue to proc Calm, Cool, Collected to reset your active action skill durations and cooldowns.
    • Next up we have 3 points into Supersonic Man and 1 point into Old-U. 3 points into Supersonic Man is giving you a +12% movement bonus per active action skill, so you'll have a +24% movement bonus while mobbing. Supersonic Man is recommended*, though its up to you to decide if you'd prefer the grenade regeneration you'd get from Pocket Full of Grenades.* Old-U is recommended*, considering it gives you a free second wind if you've got your clone active while you're down along with full health upon your second wind. Keep in mind that Old-U is like your Panic Button. Activating it will destroy your clone, revive you, and if you're in a bad mobbing situation you can activate your shield to get all of your sweet and juicy buffs. Then just freeze enemies until you're back to your proper state. Grab the Digital Distribution Augment, so that if you take any health damage while your clone is active, it redirects 75% of the damage at your clone. This will proc your other Augment, causing any damage on your health to essentially become fodder for your shield.*
    • 1 point into Boom.Enhance. and 3 points into Like a Ghost. Boom.Enhance. is going to consume a few of the grenades you never use whenever you summon your clone. For each grenade the clone gains +20% gun damage, +81% max health, +5% fire rate, +31% reload speed, and +25% seconds on your clone duration. It consumes up to 3 grenades on each activation. Which means that your clone will have +60% gun damage, +243% Health, +15% fire rate, +93% reload speed, and +75% seconds to duration if 3 grenades were consumed. Nuts. Mandatory. 3 points into Like a Ghost is going to give you and your clone a 6% chance to ignore bullets all the time. When you activate your clone, for the next 8 seconds you get a +9% ignore bullet chance added on. So 6% all the time, 15% when you activate your clone for the next 8 seconds. Stacked along with all of your damage reduction and your clone's increased health, we're just furthering our damage reduction capabilities here. Like a Ghost is recommended.
    • We arrive at our final skill. Double Barrel. This gives your clone a copy of whatever weapon you have in your hands when you activate him. Swapping places with your clone causes a +20% increased gun damage. Pairing this with our recommended gear is going to give us crazy synergies.

    Gear:

    • For your first gun slot, Auditing the Butcher, a cryo variant. I won't go listing all of it's additional stats but increased weapon damage and decreased accuracy are the big ones. With a 158% Cryo Efficiency, it's easily one of the bst guns to share to your clone in order to make the most out of this build. Essentially you could activate your clone in the next mob area, throw your dome shield into a hallway between the enemy zone and the zone that you just cleared, and now your clone will continue to freeze every enemy, you'll be sat back at full health and shields and your dome shield will stay up as well as your clone. Or, you can pop your shield around your whole body and help your clone freeze things. Oh, also it's a shotgun. This is an Optimal gun for your build.
    • The Flakker. I don't need to do too much explaining as to why this is a good choice hopefully, but with all of your clones increased damage, fire rate, etc...A shotgun that sets off a bunch of explosions and deals insane damage is amazing for mobbing. Especially because you can fire off your flakker while your clone is too. Not necessary, but boy is it a lot of fun to use.
    • Speedloadin' Hellwalker. I know what you're thinking. We've got three shotguns so far. But this gun, is a Necessity. It comes with a small magazine size, with your magazine increase you can fire it off twice before it needs to reload. It deals massive damage and fire damage as well, but it's main purpose is to proc Duct Tape Mod. Remember, the first shot you fire out of your gun has a 16% chance to shoot a copy of your grenade mod out as well. Since the hellwalker can only shoot twice before a reload, you'll proc often.
    • And as for your fourth gun slot, I like to leave this one open as "Situational Gunning", as in an enemy with armor just spawned? Time to swap to a corrosive weapon. EDIT: A recommended gun to deal with the annointed, as was pointed out in the comments, is the Moar Linoge, optimally a fire variant with the annointmnt "While Barrier is active, Status Effect Chance is increased by 50%". This synergizes extraordinarily well with our always active barrier. Mine has an 18% chance to deal 382 fire damage a second. So while my shield is active, it has a 68% chance. It's a COV weapon as well so you can hold it down and keep pumping damage on the annointed. The only issue you will have will be with Militant Annointed, as from my research when hit with Fire they become a fire spewing tank.
    • Shield Slot- Alright, this is where things become a little trickier. There's plenty of shields. In my opinion, The Transformer is Optimal. This is because of the 100% shock resistance it gives to you, converting 100% of shock damage into shields. As keeping our shields topped off is a necessity for us to proc Calm, Cool, Collected in order to reset duration, this takes the biggest weakness of the build and turns it into more shields. On top of that it also has a 40% chance to absorb bullets. It dosn't have the best capacity, but is easily the best shield you can use. Alternatively, you can use any shield that has shock resistance, or any shield that has either bullet reflection or bullet absorption. The goal with your shield is to mitigate any factors that mess with the build, such as electricity, bullets etc.
    • Grenade Slot- So the Porcelain Pipe Bomb....Nah just kidding, that got nerfed hard. Plus it doesn't fit our build theme. The optimal choice is Whispering Ice. This is a purple cryo grenade mod that causes a singularity when it goes off that pulls in enemies and freezes them, also spawning 6 proximity grenades on the ground in a circle that also deal cryo when they're set off. This grenade will get thrown when your clone spawns in, he'll have a chance to throw more as you mob, and you'll have plenty of chances to throw them out of your Hellwalker with the Duct Tape Mod. Cryo everywhere to help proc Brain Freeze and Calm, Cool, Collected. A very good alternative is the opposite type of grenade. The Firestorm. The Firestorm is going to help you murder enemies with fire. As most of the enemies on the battlefield should be either slowed or frozen due to you and your clone, it's easy picking for you.
    • Class Mod Slot- Alright, this is important. Remember back near the top of this guide when I started talking about the Barrier tree? Well now we've come full circle. There isn't any 1 mod in particular that you want, however the Optimal class mod will be one that gives you at least +3 to Ready for Action, and +1 to Adrenaline. It doesnt really matter the other modifiers that you'd like on the mod, because that +3 to Ready for Action will raise your shield recharge rate and delay bonus from the passive from a +12% recharge rate, -14% delay to a +30% recharge rate and a -29% delay. That's a massive buff to how well your personal shield operates all the time. With the =! to Adrenaline your action skill cooldown rate is also increasing from +28% to +35%, a nice 7% boost that really helps. If you mess up your flow and one of your action skills doesnt get reset from Calm, Cool, Collected then you'll have them back up in a little over 5 seconds.
    • Artifact Slot- I want to start off by saying that the Optimal choice is Snowdrift Rocket Boots. Whenever you slide, you're sliding with a 100%+ slide speed bonus, launching a snowball that does cryo damage, and homing rockets that deal incendiary damage. This Artifacts primary function is to get you around the map at a much faster rate, as well as any mobbing battlefield. Get one that has action skill cooldown rate and additional magazine size. The one that I wear for my build has a +21% Action Skill Cooldown Rate and a +40% magazine size.

Gameplay: Alright, you are now the Fortress of Zanitude. But how do you make use of your new mob slaying abilities? You can slide around the map at mach5 now with your artifact and get wherever you want, you can also choose to just slide right past areas of enemies with your dome shield activated. With the amount of shields you've got along with your rcharge rate and delay, damage reduction and bullet absorption, don't worry about dying. When you're in a mobbing situation, it's always going to serve you best to activate your Clone, quickly swap positions to increase gun damage, and throw down your bubble shield. Your shield will protect both you and your clone from any damage coming your way. If enemies begin to move too close, you should pick up your shield and reposition yourself. If you'v given Auditing the Butcher to your clone, just sit back and try to support him as he'll continue to freeze enemies to reset the duration on the dome shield you're wearing as well as his own duration. Likewise you can help by freezing any enemies that you can. If you are too far away, get out a mid range weapon like any old assault rifle and start plugging those criticals to stack your Brain Freeze. Enemies frozen this way are still frozen, so it still procs your duration reset.

Leveling Guide: Honestly, as any new player I'd recommend to spec down the barrier tree first as I've said previously. The only change I'd say is to get the Shield's ultimate skill, so that you can have the transformer's shock resistance and bullet absorption added to the dome shield. After you've hit level 50, just respec and grab the Clone's ultimate instead.

    Thanks for reading.

EDIT: Big thanks to Thechanman707 for catching a big mistake. I had Deathless artifacts as another optimal artifact for this build, but forgot that Calm, cool and collected doesn't proc at all because of the reserved health. Thanks again.

Anyone else hate how you play no part in the story outside of being a grunt?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 07:38 PM PDT

I won't go into the finale but in the major cutscene before the final battle for which you are present, you aren't in the cutscene despite it taking place right where you are.

I have never felt less important to a story than BL3. The entire game focuses around Lilith & Maya and how their Siren powers influence the universe. I didn't play Amara but if she doesn't have more meaningful dialogue than Moze it would be embarrassing.

Also how little everyone but Lilith and Tannis do in this game is awful.

    Where are the Rakk Hives!?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:36 AM PDT

Hello, I'm a concerned rakk hive enthusiast. I've played through all the borderlands games many times (except TotB,) and love the shoot n' loot FPS RPG combat. What I feel most shines in these games is the impeccable world building. The unforgiving terrain is perfectly complimented by the horrific creatures that call Pandora home.

From the Majestic Skag with it's one utilitarian hole covered by three fanged jaws, which it can eject the contents of its stomach as a projectile. To the Rambunctious Varkid that goes through a metamorphosis in seconds, maturing and often dying soon after crawling out of their nest. There are many wonderful creatures on Pandora that breathe life, and often death into the game's atmosphere. My personal favorite being the proud Rakk, and noble Rakk Hive.

Rakk hives are fascinating creatures deserving of their own dedicated DLC story line. While they have appeared in the main story and DLC in both BL1 & BL2 they are still shrouded in mystery. Rakks appear in the first game by simply walking, or driving in the wrong area. Upon further analysis you'll see that the Rakks burst from a submerged rakk hive! This brings up many questions; Is this a young and developing hive, or is this an injured and dying hive? How do rakk hives form? Are rakks parasite? perhaps rakks and rakk hives are two different species in a symbiotic relationship. I NEED ANSWERS!!!

Rakks are clearly a eusocial species similar to bees or naked mole rats. Which means the social structure of rakks must be very complicated, yet their is much about rakks and rakk hives that we don't know. As I was playing through Borderlands 3 the first time, I was so happy to see many of the creatures of Pandora again. They had rakks as always, but instead of emerging from a dormant hive or from circling in the sky; they came out of a clustered group of sacks anchored to the underside of a cliff! At first I was disappointed thinking how I wouldn't see the fascinating rakk hive in this game. After giving it some thought I grew excited in the new development of rakk and rakk hive relationship! it appears that rakks can form independently from rakk hives, OR perhaps these are the first stage in a developing rakk hive! Regardless it brings up more questions then it answers.

It should also be mentioned that the Beast Master FL4K has an action skill called RAKK ATTACK, in which he sends out multiple flaming or frozen rakks to attack his enemies. This only further deepens the rakk mystery. We know that FL4K is a self-aware AI in a robotic body that appears to be patched together with different parts. we can see that he doesn't have any rakks roosting on him, they could be hidden underneath his large jacket. The rakks are most likely digi-structed from his hand when he commands it, which makes this more of a existential issue. If you die once in the game, are you just a digital copy of yourself before you die? In the second game why did Handsome jack pay you to kill yourself, and then get killed by the vault hunter/Lilith and doesn't re-spawn? Is any of the game real? I guess I should just repeat to myself "Its just a game, and I should really just relax."

Thank you for indulging my ravings. Let me know if you share any of these feelings, or noticed anything I missed. I have a deep love of Rakk Hives and a genuine curiosity of their origins.

R.I.P. for Roscoe and all of the other fallen rakk hives, your rakks my be annoying in combat but your soulful eyes make me forgive you every time.
